Subject: Mayor White declaration of severe weather conditions
The City of Houston Activates its Severe Weather and Other Emergency Conditions Policy AP 2-3
Mayor Bill White has determined that the city of Houston government offices will implement procedures of its Severe Weather and Other Emergency Conditions Policy, AP 2-3 section 3.2, due to a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that indicates snow and freezing temperatures have the potential to create hazardous road conditions for the evening commute.
“Due to current severe weather conditions, I have determined that only emergency services are being provided by the City of Houston, beginning at 1 p.m. this afternoon. I have authorized department directors to determine which non-essential employees may be cleared to return home or remain at home as their alternative work location, beginning at 1 p.m. All City employees should monitor the radio and TV stations and contact their respective departments for further guidance.”
We anticipate conditions to improve Saturday morning. Non-essential employees who are scheduled to begin work during this emergency should plan to assume their regular schedule by 9 a.m. Saturday. If there is any uncertainty about weather conditions at the time or how this applies to you, contact your department through your department’s established emergency procedures.
You are encouraged to be very careful driving home and avoid unnecessary travel during peak periods.
