I attended an orientation of the Access Center today and I wanted to invite any who are interested in attenting the next orientation to speak with us. The orientation covered the equipment and a little of how to work the machines, but Heide Miller states we should not bother learning the equipment. Now, there are some ground rules for the Access Center I wanted to go over, namely the qualifications for being granted use of the room. If a customer is blind, deaf, an impairment to their hand dexterity or if they do not have the use of their arms they should be able to use the room, but all room appointments should be made in advance. Call Heide Miller to assist (ext 31603).
Now, if a customer is in a wheelchair or has some other physical impairment which does not effect sight, hearing or overall dexterity, they must be directed to the third floor computer bank since there are places to sit to use the computer. The Access Center is for people who have little to no choice but to use these machines to work and enjoy the library as any other customer.
