Changes coming on Monday to lobby!

Good afternoon, all!

This Monday morning, a few changes will be made not only with some equipment in the lobby, but we will also be making alterations to a few workflows:

1) One cash drawer will be moved to the self-check kiosk. Until GSD gets a carpenter in to make the necessary alterations to the kiosk itself, the drawer will be placed on top of the desk, likely with the keyboard or mouse on top in the interest of saving space.

2) Since the drawer will be placed on the self-check kiosk, booksale will be partially manned by the associate stationed at the kiosk. We will no longer be assigned specifically for booksale via the schedule.

3) With self-check open most hours of the day, we will go ahead and start the test period for having booksale up Monday - Friday, meaning we will take the sale up Monday morning and return it to the sorting area on Fridays after 5pm. This will hopefully give us more opportunities to make sales while not effecting workflows or overstaffing the lobby area. There is no discussion about opening the booksale on weekends at this time.

4) Rover's "home base" will no longer be at the self-check kiosk. Rover will be more along the lines of "crowd control". Your home base will be in front of the circ desk to direct customers to the self-check or offer assistance with ref/circ questions. If a customer wants to check out, but doesn't want to use the self-check, use the self-check on their behalf and check out the items. Rover should not move behind the desk unless there is an emergency or the staff member behind circ needs to leave for an unexpected reason.

I have emailed Paty and met with her personally to air out the issues we're having with self-check, including the Sirsi issues we need to get fixed prior to making the jump to 80% self-check usage. In the interim, we still need to guide customers to the self-checks. When encountering an issue with the self-checks, make sure to note the problem in the log book Eric created, located on the kiosk in a black binder. These stats will be instrumental in shining a light on the barriers we're encountering.

Please keep us informed about what is/isn't working in our favor. We are conducting a major overhaul on how we do business and your input is vital since the department is a front-line department.

As always, we appreciate the hard work you put forth to make this a success.
