HPL locations are now counting in-house use of materials. Scanners have been installed at each service area to help with this function.
- The pick-up carts will be marked with a “Ready to Shelve” label on the top shelf and a “Needs Scan” label on the next shelf.
- After picking up items, place them on the lower shelf.
- As time permits, scan the items and place on the upper shelf or shelve item.
- Do not scan items that need to go to another floor. Keep them on the “Needs Scan” shelf until Staff can transport them to the “Needs Scan” shelf on the correct floor. This will prevent them from being scanned twice.
Basic Scanning Procedures
- Log into Workflows
- On the left side of the screen, click “Special”
- Then select “Mark Item Used”
- Scan the barcode.
Additional Procedures If Needed
If a message pops up when scanning, put a note on the item and take care of the issues as soon as possible. Possible issues include:
Item not in the catalog - Put on LW’s problem cart with a note (or to LMS with processing flag)Missing - Discharge item to remove missing status
Hold on the Item - Take item to Sorting Room to check in, print label, then place on Hold shelf or Outgoing Delivery cart.
In Transit - Discharge item. Shelve if belongs to Central. If in transit to NL, print out Transit slip and take to Sorting Room to place on Outgoing Delivery cart.
Question: What about items with no barcodes such as microfilms or Business Services and some periodicals?
Answer: Stacks items are counted when requested through the Call Slips form. Other items without barcodes do not have a procedure at this time.
These procedures are a work in progress. Please let me know of any needed improvements. LW
