IMPORTANT IMFORMATION FOR HPL - Hurrican IKE

Greetings HPL …
Here again is the message from Mayor White about Hurricane IKE and specific information as it relates to the Houston Public Library

To Employees:
The City of Houston has begun preparations for Hurricane Ike, which is expected to begin arriving along the Texas Coast during the afternoon hours of Friday, Sept. 12.

"Due to current severe weather conditions, I have determined that only emergency services are being provided by the City of Houston. Only designated essential city employees are to report to work for Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13. All non-essential city employees should remain at home as their designated temporary work location. City employees should monitor the radio and TV stations and contact their respective departments for further guidance."

Here is what this message means for the Houston Public Library Staff:

Essential Employees (Tier 1 and Tier 2)
The Mayor has declared that only Essential Employees are to report to work tomorrow, Friday, September 12 and Saturday September 13, 2008

HPL Tier 1 Essential employees are expected to immediately report to his/her work location
=> Very critical note: All Tier 1 Essential employees who are not deputy or assistant directors are immediately designated as Tier 2 employees

HPL Tier 2 Essential employees are to remain at his/her residence as his/her temporary work location and shall be reachable and shall continue to monitor media communications for updated information regarding the weather conditions or other emergency situation and any change in his/her work reporting status or location.

Non-Essential Employees
All non-essential city employees should remain at home as their designated temporary work location. Non-Essential Employees should monitor the radio and TV stations and contact their respective departments and supervisors for further guidance."

If you are not sure of your tier designation, consult with your supervisor and the HPL Emergency Preparedness Plan Brochure 2008. Please keep your supervisor informed of your location and your contact information, especially if you evacuate.

All library locations will be closed Friday, September 12 and Saturday September 13, 2008.
