- Do not give out direct phone lines to anyone except for other staff members. Have the customer(s) call the main reference line at 832-393-1313 and request a transfer.
- We do not share scheduling information with the public, nor do we tell them the hours a specific individual works. If they press you for an answer, feel free to respond with "Central library has a very flexible staff schedule and it really is hard to give a definite schedule for this person." or call a supervisor.
- Keep all doors closed! We saw the back door to the sorting room propped open earlier. For our safety and for the safety of our locker room, keep the door closed. No customers should have access to staff only areas.
- If a customer is asking personal questions about you or a colleague, redirect the topic back to the library issue.
- If a customer is making you uneasy while shelving, leave the floor, find another staff member, call a supervisor. Remove yourself from the situation.
- Complete incident reports! These are how we get dangerous people out of our library. Any time you see something or hear something you feel is important to document, do it!
Of course these are not the only things you can do to preserve the peace here at Central. Watch out for each other, be safe and report anything you feel is out of the ordinary.
