today for our HPL Volunteer to be recognized at Mayor Parker’s State of the
City address!
Mayor Annise Parker will spotlight one Houstonian for the
Mayor’s Community Activist Recognition during the State of the City speech on
Friday, April 26, 2013.
There are six finalists, including the Houston Public Library’s
volunteer Ritika Kapoor, and the voting for a “winner” has begun at http://www.houstontx.gov/mayor/communityactivistrecognition.html.
A volunteer with HPL’s Information and Technology Department
(ITD), Ritika has been invaluable in preparing and placing computers in community-based
Computer Access Locations to provide additional computer class locations
throughout the City. Her assistance has saved the City thousands of dollars.
From personally setting up more than 700 computers to
installing wireless router systems and upgrading HPL’s system and equipment,
Ritika has been an important asset to HPL. She has provided more computers and
upgraded wireless capabilities and other technological advances to many
libraries across the city, especially those in low-income areas. These
additions provide the libraries with tools for research, computer classes and
many other programs.
I encourage you to join me in voting for Ritika so we can
give her the recognition she deserves. Voting ends
at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, so please vote today and encourage your
friends and colleagues to vote as well.
