Door Security Memo from John Middleton

There have been too many instances where secure doors in HPL facilities,
particularly rear/side entry doors, have been left unsecured by staff
propping the doors open with bricks, sticks, books, etc.
These actions have been especially troublesome at the Julia Ideson
Building where unauthorized members of the public have repeatedly
entered the building through doors left unsecured, potentially putting staff
and our customers at risk.
Please note that “At no time shall secured doors be left propped open
and unattended, or in any other way left unsecured and unattended”
We have received some reports that doors have been propped open by
vendors, delivery persons, or subcontractors. If you see this occurring,
please inform them of this policy and report the instance to Planning &
Facilities.
Likewise, if you find a door that should be secure, left unsecured and
unattended, please secure the door and report the instance to Planning &
Facilities.
Please communicate this information as usual and as necessary.
Thanks for your cooperation,
John Middleton, Assistant Director
Planning & Facilities Division
