Streets Around Library Closed: Lamar Street, Smith Street, Allen Parkway

The route for the Bayou City Classic will start out on Smith Street with runners and walkers heading down to Pease and then out on Allen Parkway and coming back in on Allen Parkway and Lamar Street. This will be early in the morning (before the library opens) but Lamar and Smith are greatly affected during the time that employees will be arriving to work. It is recommended that staff arrive to the library parking garage from Lamar at Louisiana for the easiest time accessing the garage. A parking pass is necessary and can be picked up from Bernetta Robins in the FIDS Office on the Concourse Level beginning Tuesday afternoon.
A map is attached to this email for assistance in navigating and will be included on the parking pass. The black lines show the best route to get to the red oval to be allowed through the groups of runners. Please allow for extra time to get to work due to the event. HPD will be working the event instead of the Sheriff’s Office, so staff should have an easier time getting to the Library Parking Garage.
The Central Library Garage will be closed to the public for a short bit in the morning, but should reopen as soon as the streets clear after the event.
