Greetings, There have been some questions as to what is considered a “School Sponsored Event” and  open carry rules.  School field trips to tour the library, to attend a program, or to use the library to conduct research  are considered “school sponsored events” and the visits could be planned or unannounced.   These field trips should generally be during regular school hours and include a teacher and  chaperone(s) with the students. At Central, Security of responsible for placing and removing the sign, but if the sign has been  in place for more than a couple of hours please inquire (You can call my office and Maria, Hellena  or  I will try determine whether it’s safe to remove) .  School groups are seldom at the library  more than a couple of hours, but there are exceptions, for example schools using our meeting  rooms for day-long testing or research days, and potentially there could be different groups  visiting us back to back. Please be aware that not all visits will be scheduled, sometimes schools simply show up. Please see the attached document for more details.  If you have any questions, please let me know Thanks, Paty
