Reminder: Avoid Altering TexShare Cards

Sent: Wednesday, February 18, 2009 5:05 PM

TexShare Card Liaisons,
Please remind staff who issue TexShare cards at your library that when issuing or renewing a TexShare card, if they make a mistake in typing the card, they should NOT just cross out the mistake on the card and issue it anyway. If they are renewing a TexShare card, they should not cross out the old expiration date and hand-write in the new date. Such alterations make the card look suspect when it is presented at another library.

Lending libraries have no way to know that a TexShare card with alterations was altered by authorized staff at the home library. Libraries should not have to call other libraries to ask about changes made on a card. We don't want to deny someone service, but we can't responsibly grant privileges if the card looks as it has been tampered with.

Thanks for your help in making staff aware of this point.
